Compared to "normal" wild strawberry the flower centre is totally different and the petals have a notch at the end, but in particular the leaves are hairy. Wild Strawberry has rounded, sometimes frilly edged petals and glossy, unhairy leaves.

It is in fact not sterile - it does produce fruit but they are like dry tiny nuts, not the well-known fruit of Wild Strawberry - but the fruit is fertile and can produce new plants.
